A brightly colored brocade was tied to the right arm of one of the tombs. Among the colorful patterns of the brocade, 8 Chinese characters in seal script emerged – “Five stars come out of the east and benefit China.”
This is the earliest word “China” discovered in Xinjiang so far. It was born in the Han Dynasty and has been around for more than two thousand years.
“China” was originally a regional concept, referring to the Central Plains region in the Yellow River Basin. The first to clearly record the word “China” is the inscription “He Zun” of the bronze ware in the early Western Zhou Dynasty. The inscription contains the word “Zhaizi China”, which refers to the Central Plains region centered on the Luoyang Basin. From the font origin of words and words, it is the earliest title of the concept of “China”.
